It’s always nice to check out your old stomping grounds so being back in Germany was very refreshing. Oh how I would love to get stationed back there again… It was a quick turn then back to the skies for the last leg into the desert.
I had fun playing with my GPS as we were crossing the world. It worked pretty well everywhere and here are a few pictures that I took of it as I flew over Jens house and then the Atlantic. It was also neat to check out how far the nearest McDonalds was, ok so when you are flying half way across the world at 300KTAS you got a lot of free time.
Look Chicago! Wow the GPS was right
Going to Fly over Jen's House
Crossing the pond
Once I landed I was pretty surprised how “at home” I felt even just talking to approach before we landed, then when I landed and taxied clear of the runway it was like… well… nothing. It was like I never left. I guess it feels that way when it was just 2 months ago when I was here doing the same thing. I am even back in my same room! This time I switched sides just to make something different but my same space age mattress topper was still there along with my thermometer from my 2004 deployment in Qatar. I guess it’s nice that I have a place that I can call home but I wish that it was somewhere else, and maybe that special place would have a bathroom closer than 200 meters away.
So what is life like now that I am back in the sand box. Well it’s colder this time, need to wear a jacket and I only missed the gym the first day and have flow 2 missions. In fact I am typing this as I am flying right now =) See…
This was taken via my webcam on the laptop but I had to make the quality very low because of the very slow internet connection over here =( But it's better then nothing!
Yes Amy your hula girl is still with me and she even has a friend on this trip =)
Sunrise over the Atlantic
OK well I hope you all have a very Merry Xmas and as soon as I get the internet hooked up in the room I’ll have the web page updated.
Aloha!
