Another day in paradise

I had an interesting first mission. It started off with no alert page, then no van to get to work, then a fire alarm that would not shut up, then bad weather so we couldn’t take off, ect..ect…ect… then we finally flew to Baghdad then to the Deid in Qatar. Al Udeid was the first base I was deployed to in 2004. It was nice to see the place again after 4 year, a lot had changed but then again a lot was the same.

We ended up spending the night at the Deid as the plane broke, this was nice as the Deid is one of a very few places where you can have alcohol. So as you can imagine the crew was very excited that they could have 3 beers apiece. I couldn’t let the crew drink alone so I had 3 shots of Captain =)

The next day the plane was fixed and we headed back home via 4 more stops. Normally in the summer the weather is not a factor other then the sand storms but we were having to dodge a few thunderstorms and I got to shoot an approach to land opposite direction with a 25 knot quartering tail wind, ok sorry for the pilot talk, I’ll stop.

Today I went to the Army gym and then sat out at the pool for a little over an hour; let me tell you this defending the country is rough!

My room, note the famous thermometer that seen over 130 degrees F

This is the crew we relived; they are heading back home, that's not fog but dust!

Me with my new VAF Tshirt in an undisclosed location

I guess we are not a passenger aircraft???

Well I hope you enjoy the pics of my room and I’ll type more as stuff happens, take care and don’t worry about me, I love the heat!
