I finally got the internet up and running here in this place I like to call home. I truly hope this never really becomes my home but as it is I have spent many days including birthdays, holidays, well every day of a year here (just not all in the same year) I really do feel I have the right to call this my home. This is a new base for me, I’ll give you a hint, it’s in Sadam’s home town.
The place is really spread out, I am used to walking .25-.3 miles to get something to eat, well now I get the pleasure of walking .9 miles to get some food. Yep the line of sight distance is .8 miles and they put some pesky barb wire between me and the chow hall. The walk maybe long but it’s worth it, this is by far the BEST food I have ever had while I am deployed! I don’t want to say this out loud but among my choice each day have been things like lobster tail, king crab legs (already split for you), stir fry (you pick and chose what you want in it) and of course fresh fruit and a smoothie bar as you leave. Tonight I did have the steak with fried shrimp, green bean and 2 kiwis. I almost grabbed some sweet potato pie but I decided that I should pace myself and try not to gain too much weight.
The rooms are the same as I have been staying at in Balad, I now have internet in them and as soon as they bring me a new mattress I think life will as good as it can get 8000 miles from home.
As far as the work, I have not started flying yet but I am sure that will happen soon. We are literally standing up a squadron from scratch, I mean there was not even doors on the place we got let alone desks or phones or anything. Once we get set up I am sure the flying will commence.
As far as the plane, well she is now sitting home all alone. So when will that be… I am told I will be home for Xmas but that will be cutting it real close as they did not leave much if any room for delays.
I have not taken any pictures yet, I guess I have so many deployment/desert photos that I have not felt a need to pull the camera out, but I guess I should and I’ll let you know what this place looks like, or at least my room
So the story of the day…
I figured I should get my hair cut as I am a little shaggy and don’t always like having to take a shower to make my hair all nice and neat so I found the barber and sat down. The hair cut went fine until it went a little too far… First I know that I have bushy eyebrows but I have NEVER had anyone cut or should I say CHOP them! Yea before I could say a word I heard the thunderous sound of scissors struggling hard to cut though the forest that grows above my eyes. Just that fast, without warning or time to stop it I had my eyebrows trimmed. I can't say I like it, in fact it has been bothering me for the last 5 hours. I mean really? Do I really want poky hair above my eyes? I am sure no one can really tell but me but I am just a little upset, oh well I am sure in about 5 months they will be back to their full length and maybe longer.
Well I should go and hang out with my crew, hope all is well with everyone and I’ll try and keep this up to date. Aloha!
