Well got another flight under our belts. This time I got to show my copilot what it’s like to fly when it’s not clear and a million. I’ll admit out first approach into a field was a little sporty.
We were rushed and I wanted to avoid overflying a populated area so we were busy talking on the radios to coordinate all of that as I was calculating the decent profile as they said the weather was going down at the field but that it was still good enough for a visual approach. I realized rather quickly that we would need an overhead to make the field so we called for that but the field was pretty hard to see with the dim lights even on night vision goggles so when I rolled towards final I lost sight of the runway as it was on the copilots side. He kept the field insight so he guided me around the turn but it was a wake up for him as he has never seen weather in Iraq. All went well and we got on the ground safely.
I think because the weather was getting worst our day was cut short, yea no complaints, and when we came back home the winds were kicking Cheyenne style, over 50 kts at 1000’ above the ground. In fact as I am typing this the winds are howling!
So today I did the food thing and am about to head out to the gym, nothing to exciting today but we should be flying again soon.
I’ll chat later, Aloha!
PS our satellite internet sucks in high wind/dust storms
